AI Application Support Specialist – Barcelona Supercomputing Center Overview
BSC combines HPC service provision and research across life, earth and engineering sciences. This role supports AI applications on the MN5‑AI partition, optimizing performance and assisting research projects.
Responsibilities
* Optimize and adapt scientific application codes to new pre‑exascale architectures focusing on AI applications.
* Improve performance of existing AI environments, modifying code or advising developers.
* Choose and adapt algorithms and/or library routines for specific computer architectures (accelerators, new programming models).
* Provide consultancy to scientists on AI solutions that advance research.
* Generate performance analysis and benchmarks for selected applications and report results to developers.
* Collaborate with other functional groups at European and international level on technical matters related to supporting AI scientific application work.
Qualifications
* Education
* A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline with a focus on Artificial Intelligence at a technical level is required.
* Master's degree in a related field is desirable.
1. Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
* Experience working with AI models and running them in parallel on HPC systems.
* Experience using performance analysis tools and parallel debuggers for GPUs.
* Experience supporting and collaborating with external partners.
* Good understanding of Linux environment and Shell scripting.
* Experience working with parallel programming codes (MPI and OpenMP) and batch systems like SLURM as a user.
* At least 2 years of experience in a similar position with AI solutions.
2. Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
* Experience managing big and collaborative projects;
experience with git andSVN.
* Experience porting codes to accelerators specifically NVIDIA GPUs.
* Thorough understanding of high‑performance computing architectures.
* Experience porting and optimizing applications on UNIX‑based systems in Fortran, C, MPI, OpenMP and parallel methods.
3. Competences
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Analytical problem‑solving ability.
Conditions
* Position will be located at BSC within the Operations Department.
* Full‑time contract (37.5h/week) with flexible working hours, training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance and relocation support.
* Open‑ended contract due to technical and scientific activities.
* 22 days holidays + 6 personal days + 24th and 31st December per collective agreement.
* Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications.
* Start date: asap.
