We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Secondary at our British School of Vila-real in Castellon, Spain.
As Head of Secondary, you play a crucial role in supporting the Head of School in establishing both a School of Choice and an Employer of Choice. You report directly to your Head of School and work in active, positive collaboration with your Senior Leadership Team. You are accountable for delivering on the desired outcomes in each of the components listed below, and the ongoing development of the school and learning improvement.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Leadership
* Provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to support staff professional learning, and create a vibrant learning environment for all.
* As a senior leader in the School, be a role model for all students and staff.
* Ensure all aspects of the operation of Secondary School are consistent with and supportive of the School's Vision for Learning and strategic priorities.
* Apply all School policies as they relate to the section of the school.
* Lead frequent school assemblies with the MLT and staff to build community and create a sense of belonging.
* Lead the section by setting high professional standards as befits an ISP school, as demanded by the school Principal, and as required by accreditation authorities (NABSS and Best Practice Network).
Management
* Responsible for the daily leadership and management of the section of the school.
* Participate in weekly AHs meetings and Administration Meetings, providing agenda items and following up on actions.
* Provide educational and administrative leadership for the MLT and teaching staff.
* Ensure accurate student records and assessment details are maintained.
* Chair or facilitate meetings related to the smooth operation of Secondary School.
* Advise the Principal on staffing requirements, recruitment, and allocation.
* Assist in developing and setting the School budget for your section.
* Oversee Secondary Presentation events in collaboration with the Admissions & Marketing Team.
Teaching and Learning
* Promote a positive, innovative learning environment where students can reach their full potential.
* Ensure research-based pedagogies guide curriculum, teaching practices, and learning space design.
* Manage curriculum priorities, review, development, and documentation.
* Oversee subject choice, assessment, reporting, and feedback systems.
* Analyze examination results, create action plans, and implement interventions.
* Collaborate with Leaders of Learning, MLT, and Student Support to develop educational support and extension programs.
Pastoral Care
* Responsible for student welfare, behaviour support, and pastoral care in line with School policy.
* Implement and write the pastoral care curriculum with MLT.
* Refer students at risk to the DSL and relevant staff or agencies.
* Work with parents on student welfare matters and support them as needed.
* Manage induction and orientation of new students and families.
* Support service learning opportunities for students.
Staff Professional Learning
* Ensure staff appraisal and professional development through TLSE processes.
* Develop professional learning programs and opportunities.
* Liaise with the Principal on staff performance and evaluation.
* Create conditions for team building and staff welfare.
* Support and supervise staff with the MLT.
* Implement the Leading the Learning program to promote best practices.
Communication and Marketing
* Work with the Marketing Team to promote and develop a welcoming school community.
* Engage with prospective families and support the enrollment process.
* Maintain communication with parents and facilitate engagement in school activities.
General
* Provide additional support to the Principal as required. The duties may be varied as needed.
