With 3 manufacturing sites in Spain and Argentina and 2 products on the market, it has developed itself from an early-stage biotech company into a full-fledged successful biopharma organization. Majority owned by Fresenius Kabi and minority by Insud Pharma, it has a strong basis in the pharma industry and focus on long term success. As the main business model is sales through partners, business development deals are at the heart of the company and licensing income an important revenue stream.
RESPONSIBILITY
The Associate BD Director for EU, US & Pipeline will be a deal-maker responsible for expanding new business opportunities and drive business growth through the searching, negotiating, and closing large out-licensing deals.
The geographical focus will be on the EU and US but deals outside of this geography could also be possible on a case-by-case basis. The candidate will have 8-10 years’ experience in business development, closing deals with significant value. He/she will have a very strong network in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry and will be able to create leads in a short matter of time. He/she will be an autonomous in the execution of this role, but in close collaboration with the Global Commercial Director, the CEO and other functional teams, vital for the successful closing of these deals.
The other primary role would be to define the pipeline strategy of the company with focus on short, mid, and long-term (in-licensing, own developments, innovative projects, etc.). The candidate will work cross-functional with the relevant SMEs to compile a definitive Business Case with the aim to provide clear guidance to the MEC (mAbxience Executive Committee) for decision-making on the future products/projects in the company.
The Associate BD Director for EU, US & Pipeline will be involved in all general BD activities, from defining business cases, NPV analyses, market research, due diligence activities, valuation and M&A processes and setting up strategic collaborations worldwide.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
* Search, negotiate and close deals (in and out) with strong partners in the EU and US (with option for global/ROW deals on case-by-case basis).
* Lead initial evaluation (e.g., competitive landscape assessments, gap analyses, comparable deals) to identify new market opportunities and trends in the pharma industry to drive business growth.
* Prepare business cases, market reviews and NPV analyses to support the dealmaking.
* Actively network in the industry to establish relationships and to identify potential opportunities.
* Coordinate and support cross-functional due diligence teams through all stages of the project evaluation process.
* Collaborate closely with all levels of the company to maintain a very solid knowledge of the programs and state of the company, to ensure successful execution.
* Support the Global Commercial Director and the CEO in all business development related topics, ranging from business reviews to valuation and other activities.
* As necessary, assist in managing on-going partnership and alliance activities, and post-acquisition integration transition activities.
* Create the strategy for the company for licensing and pipeline.
* Work collaboratively with other internal functions to assess market potential, financial viability, technical relevance, manufacturing feasibility, quality and regulatory considerations, and intellectual property and legal implications, of potential new business opportunities (pipeline or partnerships).
* Prepare budget, business plan, aligning cross functional with the relevant functions.
* Assist with creation of Board presentations and reports summarizing BD activities for reporting to the Company's management team.
* Be the internal business partner to align interest and focus on the key value drivers in the company.
* Represent mAbxience at conferences, through presentations and in general in the business arena, to maintain and improve the image of mAbxience.
REQUIREMENTS
* Education: Biotech/Pharma and/or economics relevant university grade. MBA preferred.
* Languages: Fluent in speaking and writing in English, Spanish and another language as a plus.
* Experience (years/area): 8-10 years of experience business development dealmaking in the biotech, pharmaceutical and/or MedTech industry and a strong deal sheet.
* Specific Knowledge: Familiarity with biotech processes and products.
* Travels: Willingness to travel significantly.
