Who are we looking for?

The ADAPT Research Unit is seeking a talented researcher to join our team as a fixed term post-doctoral Researcher in Wireless Communications and Networking. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about exploring the cross-layer intersection of AI/ML and next-generation Radio Access Networks (RAN) and Systems (5G/6G), and who have the ability to apply radio resource management strategies in cloud-native topologies.


What do we offer?

* We offer an indefinite contract of scientific technical activities. Once this project will finish, you will join other projects in the same research line, subject to budget availability.
* Annual gross salary according to the profile of the candidate
* Full-time contract: 7,5 h/day. Flexibility

Qualifications and Experience

* We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, energetic person, aiming at significantly improving his or her career perspectives in both public and private sectors. The successful applicant should have the competencies of R2 category.
* Required qualification/skills/experience:
o PhD degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a related discipline (e.g., Telecommunications, Computer Engineering).
+ A PhD thesis successfully defended before the starting date (01/03/2026) will be accepted. A supporting document must be provided (defense certificate/official minutes, or provisional degree certificate).
+ Degrees obtained abroad: provide the degree certificate or provisional certificate. Where applicable, submit evidence of official equivalence/recognition.
o Experience in AI/ML-driven radio resource management (RRM):
+ Experience in applying AI/ML to wireless network optimization, data-driven modeling and system simulation.
+ Knowledge of reinforcement learning, deep learning, or other optimization algorithms for RAN control.
o Software development and integration skills. Indicative skills:
+ Strong programming skills in Python and/or C/C++.
+ Familiarity with TensorFlow and/or PyTorch for model training and inference.
+ Experience with REST-style APIs, Git or other versioning systems, and Linux-based environments.
o Experience in R&D projects
+ Ability to contribute to international research projects (Horizon EU, SNS JU, etc.).
+ Experience in writing technical reports and setting up demonstrators.
o Track record in disseminating research results
+ Ability to publish and present the results of the conducted research in prestigious international conferences and renown journals.
o Other skills that are valuable, but not mandatory are:
+ Experience with O-RAN architectures, interfaces and radio units (RUs). Indicative skills:
# Working knowledge of O-RAN functional components (RIC, rApps/xApps, SMO, E2 interface) and their integration including RUs.
# Experience with open-source O-RAN implementations (e.g., OAI, srsRAN, OSC, FlexRIC).
+ Knowledge of Software Defined Radio (SDR) including RF system fundamentals, beamforming and HW‑SW co-design.
+ Knowledge of Cloud‑native and Edge resource orchestration principles. Indicative topics:
# Virtualization (e.g., Docker, VMs) and Kubernetes for container orchestration and resource management.
# Microservices, Helm charts, and CI/CD pipelines.
