Role Overview
Canonical, a leader in open source software and operating systems, is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead teams focused on optimizing Ubuntu for the latest hardware platforms including x86, ARM, RISC-V, s390x, and POWER. This globally remote role involves collaborating with silicon vendors, driving engineering practices, and contributing to the development of cutting-edge technology.
Responsibilities
1. Lead and develop a diverse team of engineers
2. Oversee project delivery and support customer engagements
3. Provide technical leadership on complex system architectures
4. Implement disciplined engineering processes
5. Maintain and optimize platform software stacks
6. Contribute to code reviews and technical documentation
7. Collaborate with leadership and external communities
Qualifications
* Strong academic background and experience in Computer Science or STEM
* Proficiency in C, C++, and Python
* Experience with Linux, Debian/Ubuntu, or similar distributions
* Leadership experience in software engineering
* Excellent communication skills in English
Preferred Skills
* Experience with open source communities and licenses
* Knowledge of computer architecture (x86, ARM, RISC-V, s390x)
* Understanding of build systems, cross-compilation, and virtualization
* Experience with customer interactions and hardware bring-up
