The Physician Assistant will work within the Department of Gastroenterology alongside other Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), including Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners. You will be part of a team with 3 other APPs and 10 GI physicians. The role involves outpatient responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Evaluating and treating patients independently.Reviewing and communicating laboratory and diagnostic test results to patients.Authorizing pharmacy refills.Collaborating with medical assistants and secretaries in the clinic.Triage of patient calls and messages.Our APPs are authorized to diagnose and treat healthcare problems based on protocols or in collaboration with physicians. They may perform specialty procedures as per approved protocols. Responsibilities include:
Taking patient histories, performing physical exams, and making assessments.Initiating, reviewing, and revising treatment plans.Ordering or transmitting orders for diagnostic and therapeutic services.Recognizing urgent situations and initiating necessary treatment.Counseling patients on health matters, medications, diets, and lifestyle.Arranging patient admissions and completing necessary documentation.Referring patients to appropriate facilities and resources.Preferred experience includes office visits, laboratory procedures, and diagnostic assessments such as:
Fecal disimpactionAnoscopyPerianal abscess therapyEKG interpretationX-ray readingDetailed abdominal examsQualifications include:
Master of Science Degree in Physician Assistant Studies.National Certification as a Physician Assistant.BLS and ACLS Certifications.DEA certification.Experience of at least 2 years in a relevant clinical area such as GI, general surgery, or reconstructive surgery is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
