The Role
Responsibilities
The appointee will join a small, collaborative IT team to ensure our mission-critical services and platforms remain reliable, secure, and compliant with university policies
Key responsibilities include:
Administer and harden Linux servers supporting core websites, ensuring high availability and smooth operations.
Manage virtual machines and plan/execute operating system upgrades and migrations with minimal or zero downtime.
Maintain Windows server and Active Directory.
Implement and continuously improve IT security measures and conduct information security assessments; implement service monitoring and protections against cyber threats and DoS attacks.
Contribute to technical support for seminars, workshops, and events.
Provide PC helpdesk support and administration.
Assist with facilities maintenance of AV equipment.
Occasional Saturday and evening duties will be required.
Qualifications And Qualities
Applicants should have the following qualifications, skills and attributes:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related discipline.
At least 2 years' work experience in infrastructure, server administration and cybersecurity management.
Strong hands-on experience with Linux server administration and virtual machines management.
Proficiency in Windows server administration and Active Directory.
Experience with monitoring platforms, preferably Zabbix or Nagios, and proactive service monitoring practices.
Solid understanding of information security best practices, including vulnerability assessment and remediation, SSL/TLS management, firewall rules/policies, anti-virus server/client management, backups, patching, and performance tuning.
Familiarity with policies on information security and data management and personal data protection practices.
Skilled in scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl) for automation and problem-solving.
Experience with Moodle systems and online registration systems is an advantage.
Excellent communication skills, professional attitude, reliability, and collaborative teamwork.
Versátil, able to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
A good security mindset and awareness of relevant compliance and privacy requirements are expected.
What We Offer
The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary.
