The SHE Capabilities Manager for Process Safety works with a network of Process Safety professionals and Engineering/Maintenance teams in factories to establish an industry-leading position on Process Safety for Unilever’s operations. The role involves working closely with the Process Safety expert in the Central Engineering team to develop and implement Process Safety expertise through global programs and work processes, helping factory teams excel in SHE performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Supports the Business Strategy :
* Works with Central Engineering to set strategy, annual plans, and 3-year roadmaps to meet internal targets on Process Safety across production sites, DCs/WHs, and R&D facilities.
* Ensures robust implementation and compliance with regulations, legislation, and company expectations in Process Safety.
* Develops, maintains, trains, and deploys Process Safety standards and technical specifications.
* Strengthens governance and control of these standards in operations.
* Leads Risk Assessment programs using tools like Hazop, LOPA, Bowtie.
* Leads an effective Process Safety Audit program.
Supports SHE Positive Assurance Reporting (PAR) process :
* Supports Technical Authorities in reviewing designs to ensure risks are As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP).
* Maintains Unilever Duty of Care through the TA framework.
Supports all major capital projects managed by Engineering :
* Champions Project Risk Governance for end-to-end Process Safety risk management.
* Develops and executes global Process Safety programs, including audit gap closure and structural issue resolution.
Serves as a Technical and Subject Matter Expert on Process Safety globally for Ice Cream operations.
Global Governance to Drive SHE Culture :
* Leads the Zero Harm to Community platform to synchronize site plans and drive culture change.
* Leads capability development, designing learning content and curricula for Process Safety management and Technical Authorities, collaborating with Supply Chain Academy teams.
Manages Change system ownership, oversees governance tools, reviews root cause investigations, and tracks company performance against targets. Brings external best practices through professional certifying bodies like IChemE or CCPS, and collaborates across the organization to ensure progress meets expectations, all within cost, capital, and headcount boundaries.
ESSENTIAL
* University degree in Chemical or Process Engineering.
* Deep technical and management skills in Process Safety (QRA, PSSR, HAZOP, Bowtie).
* Proven track record in operational project management, incident investigation, and auditing.
* Ability to influence in a matrix organization.
Preferred
* Excellent knowledge of Unilever SHE standards.
* Knowledge of SHE IT tools and their integration into work processes.
* Influencing skills and cultural sensitivity.
* Ability to manage multiple requests and priorities.
* Experience with SHE standards and tools across functions in Unilever.
Experience Required :
* Minimum 10 years in engineering and/or operations of high-risk/hazard operations.
* Extensive regulatory experience (UK HSE, COMAH, OSHA).
* Deep expertise in demonstrating risk as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP).
* Strong analytical and project management skills.
* Knowledge of chemical or process engineering.
Preferred
* Understanding of international Process Safety standards.
* Existing network with certifying bodies like IChemE or CCPS.
