The Role :
We are seeking an enthusiastic and resilient Administrative Director to join our dynamic team and provide leadership across a wide range of management and support functions. This role will be essential in ensuring smooth operations, creating a supportive environment for world-class research, and adapting to global challenges with a focus on digital transformation and long-term sustainability. You will work closely with the Director and senior management to translate the scientific vision into actionable operational strategies. As Administrative Director, you will oversee key functions including Finance, Purchasing, IT, Human Resources, Legal, Facilities, and Health & Safety. You will operate within a multi-disciplinary, international environment, managing complex projects and aligning operations with strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Strategic Leadership : Support the Director in developing the institute’s policies and strategies, ensuring alignment with scientific and operational objectives.
2. Team Oversight : Lead departments such as Finance, Purchasing, Grants Management, IT, HR, Health & Safety, Legal, Facilities, Operations, and Corporate Projects, managing approximately 70 staff members.
3. Financial Management : Oversee budget planning, management, and financial reporting, ensuring sound financial practices and safeguarding assets.
4. Human Resources : Lead recruitment, staff development, and team-building initiatives.
5. Regulatory Compliance : Ensure operations comply with relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.
6. Governance Liaison : Collaborate with the Board of Trustees on policy and management issues.
7. Legal Representation : Sign official documents, including contracts and procurement agreements.
8. Process Improvement : Promote continuous improvement by implementing management system enhancements, KPIs, and process optimizations.
Professional Experience and Skills :
Experience : Minimum of 5 years in management, preferably within an international research or scientific organization.
Leadership : Proven ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary, multicultural teams.
Policy Formulation : Experience in developing and implementing policies for governing bodies.
Financial Acumen : Experience managing budgets and financial planning.
Project Management : Strong skills in overseeing complex projects.
Regulatory Knowledge : Knowledge of public sector regulations related to research foundations.
Educational Background :
Required : University degree in Business Administration, Law, or related fields. An MBA or similar qualification is desirable. Alternatively, a university degree in Life Sciences or related disciplines combined with an MBA or equivalent experience in a similar role.
Languages : Fluent in spoken and written English. Proficiency in Spanish and Catalan is preferred or willingness to learn these languages upon joining.
