Job Description :
We are currently looking for an Underwriter for our Marine underwriting department (Hull business). This job involves working alongside the other Underwriters and Assistants in the team to provide customers with appropriate insurance protection.
You will spend the majority of your time liaising with customers and brokers, driving underwriting decisions, and contributing to business development activities.
You will have strong analytical, relationship management, and communication skills.
You have a clear ambition to further develop in Underwriting, and you are passionate about your development in Marine.
Key Responsibilities :
* Developing a trusted, deep, and long-term relationship with selected brokers to generate, progress, and close new, up selling, and cross selling business opportunities.
* Going to events and meetings to extend your network and create new relations with market parties and Broker relations.
* Contributing to the creation of segment and local business development plans by creating a regular flow of new business opportunities and incoming submissions.
* Reviewing allocated cases and delivering well-substantiated underwriting decisions within agreed timeframes to secure profitable business within authority level and risk appetite.
* Establishing an effective relationship with Underwriting, Claims, and Risk consulting colleagues and creating a strong internal network at RSA / Intact.
* Clearly and positively articulating our proposition and risk appetite towards the market.
* Maximising profitable business growth through:
* Seeking opportunities inside and outside our portfolio to grow our book.
* Working on standard, non-standard, or complex cases and seeking guidance from internal and external sources such as risk consultants to deliver an outstanding service to the broker/customer.
* Effectively supporting and building your case internally to the designated authority level when needed following the referral line.
Skills and Experience :
* You ideally have 2-6 years’ experience in Marine Insurance and you have completed education at minimal higher educational level.
* Additionally, it will be valued that you have completed the WFT-exams. You are prepared to do additional training if required for the job.
* You are well versed in working with (Excel) data, tools, and systems.
* Your English is at a good level, both verbal and written. Good Dutch level is an added value.
* You have a winning mentality, a commercial-minded attitude, combined with a passion for achieving results.
* You are an effective team player, and you find it important to work together on most cases to achieve the best results together and win as a team.
