Technical Engineering DirectorEuropean Tech Recruit are working closely with an exciting quantum software company, based in San Sebastian, who are looking for a talented Technical Engineering Director to join their team.This role is purely business-driven and focused on commercial execution. The successful candidate will act as a trusted strategic partner to public institutions, capable of engaging at executive and political levels and closing high-value, multi-year AI contracts (7–8 figures).Responsibilities as Technical Engineering Director:
Drives end-to-end delivery on customer projects: from technical scoping to execution and delivery.Transforms client needs into innovation: identifies opportunities to derive new intellectual property, with a strong focus on transferring innovations into scalable company products.Builds and curates a high-performance team: responsible for recruitment, mentorship, career development, and fostering an open and collaborative environment.Allocates and optimizes talent across projects: ensures that resources are aligned effectively with department priorities while maintaining workload balance.Brings unique technical expertise: leverages deep domain knowledge in machine learning, LLMs, and/or quantum computing to act as a technical authority and trusted advisor.Coordinates with other directors: identifies cross-project synergies and ensures alignment with other department teams to maximize company-wide impact.Represents the department externally: acts as a technical and strategic point of contact for customers, managing relationships and aligning client success with company objectives.Reports directly to VP of Services and CTO. Requirements:
Master's or Ph D in Machine Learning, Physics, Computer Science, or related STEM field.Minimum 3 years' industry experience working on applied machine learning solutions, with emphasis on NLP, Large Language Models, or Deep Learning.Minimum 2 years' experience in project management with hands-on responsibility for delivering end-to-end client engagements.Demonstrated team management experience, ideally managing managers and multi-project pipelinesExperience with Python and applied ML frameworks.Ability to collaborate with diverse and distributed teams, across both technical and non-technical functions.
