Company Description
Wilderway (WW) is working to deliver investable nature restoration, by developing landscape ecosystem restoration projects aligned with rewilding principles, financed through the sale of high quality, high integrity carbon and nature credits. Our pipeline is strong, with projects at various stages of development - from feasibility studies, land contracting and carbon and nature credit development, right through to contracting multiple (corporate) credit buyers. We work with experienced local partners who are specialised in delivering nature restoration on the ground.
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Data Scientist.
Role
The Data Scientist will sit at the core of Wilderway's technical work and will focus on:
* supporting the development and maintenance of data pipelines and analytical tools,
* assisting with the implementation and improvement of (carbon and nature) models across existing and new projects,
* analysing and integrating monitoring and operational datasets,
* supporting the management and improvement of WW's data systems and infrastructure.
The Data Scientist will report to the Impact and MRV Lead and will work in close collaboration with the Carbon & Nature Data Scientist, Impact and MRV manager as well as the credit developers in WW team and with local teams responsible for project implementation in the field.
Main Responsibilities
The main responsibilities of the Data Scientist are:
Data Analysis and Model Support
* Contribute to the development and maintenance of models for different standards and habitats, in collaboration with Impact and MRV team members.
* Operation of models for specific projects, adapting them to the changing circumstances.
* Assisting in updating the models after each monitoring cycle, based on new data.
Data Management
* Contributing and implementing WW's data management solutions.
* Manage, clean, structure, and validate project datasets.
* Contribute to building and maintaining data pipelines and databases.
* Support the development of dashboards and data visualisation tools.
Monitoring
* Support in analysing monitoring and operational datasets, ensuring data quality and
consistency.
* Collaborate with team members to integrate field and external datasets into WW systems.
Knowledge and Experience
* Passionate about Wilderway's mission, vision and objectives.
* Dedicated to make a difference for nature restoration, with a commercial mindset.
* Master's degree or above in a relevant discipline (e.g., Environmental Engineering, Data Science).
* 1-3 years of working experience in developing and implementing models and data management.
* Experience working with large and complex datasets, including data cleaning, transformation, and validation.
* Proven work/study expertise in advanced use of GIS, remote sensing, R & python, and in (ecological) modelling systems.
* Experience in using version control systems (e.g. Git/GitHub) for collaborative development and code management.
* Good communication skills, to develop user guidance and explaining concepts to non-technical audience.
* Proactive and willing to learn in a fast-paced and mission-driven environment.
* Interest in applying data science to real-world problems.
Requirements
• Location: based in The Netherlands or Spain (in proximity to Burgos).
• Hybrid workplace (2-3 working days per week from the office), with travel flexibility across Europe as required.
• Permit to work in Europe required.
