Job Title Data Scientist in AI for Cardiology – Digital Health Unit (RE2)

Context and Mission The Digital Health Unit applies artificial intelligence to healthcare to deliver solutions with real clinical impact. This position is part of a collaboration with the AI in Cardiology Group at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau to develop AI solutions in cardiology for product-oriented applications in healthcare settings.
Key Duties Develop AI models for cardiology with emphasis on:
Analysis of cardiac signals using advanced signal processing methods
Medical image analysis in cardiology
Integration of biomarkers into predictive models
Application of deep learning, transformers, foundational models, and generative AI approaches
Collaborate with clinical researchers and cardiologists to co-design and validate AI tools
Contribute to the development of product-ready applications for healthcare settings
Ensure models are robust, explainable, and clinically relevant
Publish and disseminate results in scientific and innovation forums
Requirements Education
Master's degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related fields
PhD is welcome (plus), but not required
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
3 to 5 years hands-on experience in deep learning applied to biomedical data, with emphasis on deep learning, transformers and foundational models
Strong background in signal processing, particularly for biomedical signals such as cardiac data
Proven expertise in medical image analysis, preferably in cardiology or related healthcare domains
Solid programming skills (Python or similar) and use of deep learning libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
Strong interest in developing healthcare applications with real clinical impact
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
Experience collaborating with clinical partners or working on healthcare datasets is an advantage
Familiarity with biomarkers or multimodal data integration is desirable
Fluency in English, Catalan, and Spanish
Competences
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
Ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams (engineers, clinicians, researchers)
Conditions The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department
Full-time contract (37.5 h/week); adaptable working hours; extensive training plan; restaurant tickets; private health insurance; relocation support
Duration: Open-ended contract linked to project and budget
Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st December
Salary: competitive and commensurate with qualifications and cost of living in Barcelona

Development of the recruitment process: The selection is conducted as a competitive examination system (Concurso-Oposición) with two phases:
Curriculum Analysis – Evaluation of experience, degree, training, and relevant professional information. 40 points.
Interview Phase – Technical and personal competencies assessed. 60 points; minimum 30/60 to be eligible. The recruitment panel includes at least three people with at least 25% women; gender-balanced panels are formed in accordance with Open, Transparent and Merit-based Recruitment (OTM-R) principles
