Internal Communications and Community Engagement Coordinator SummaryThe Internal Communications and Community Engagement Lead owns the quality, timing, and discipline of BFIS internal communications. This role reduces noise by editing, sequencing, and scheduling messages through clear channel rules and a consistent rhythm. The role supports major school moments by managing event communications (information and messaging).Reports to : Director of Communications and MarketingThe role collaborates closely with: Division Leaders, Operations, Admissions, EdTech, Front Office, Learning Leaders, staff and teacher leaders as appropriate.Reduce overload and protect attentionMake information easy to find and act onWrite for a multilingual community with simple structure and clear calls to actionCommunicate with respect, discretion, and consistencyKeep student privacy and safeguarding at the centerEssential Duties and Key Responsibility AreasInternal Communications OwnershipManages internal communications through approved channels (parent/staff app and other defined internal tools)Collaborate with Marketing Growth Coordinator to manage and publish content across BFIS social channels, including LinkedIn, and maintain a consistent posting cadence aligned with recruitment priorities.Edits, sequences, shortens, and schedules messages from leaders and teamsEnforces lead times and channel rules, including what belongs in the app vs email vs websiteMaintains the master internal communications calendar and weekly planning rhythmEditorial Quality and Clarity CoachingImproves readability, tone, and structure across internal communicationsCoaches colleagues on writing for families and staffMaintains templates for recurring communications (trips, schedule changes, reminders, policy updates)Content CaptureCaptures lightweight, opportunistic internal-use content (i.e. simple photos and short video clips for internal communications (parent/staff app, internal updates), especially during key community momentsCoordinates with staff to collect usable images and stories using clear guidelinesEnsures consent, dignity, and safeguarding expectations are followed before postingMaintains basic organization of internal-use images and submits strong assets to the marketing role when relevantImplements BFIS multilingual communication rules (what is bilingual, what is summarized, what is English-first)Coordinates translation workflows within agreed capacity and timelinesFlags where language choices may create access gaps and proposes practical fixesEvent Communications LeadLead the BFIS event planning process, running monthly calendar meetings with leadership, operations and pedagogical teams to ensure all school events meet expected timelines, expectations and are aligned with the schools mission and values,Produces event communications: invites, key details, FAQs, reminders, day-of updates, post-event recap where appropriateSafeguarding, Privacy, and Data CareApplies safeguarding and privacy expectations to internal content, images, and distribution practicesCoordinates with EdTech on distribution lists, access permissions, and secure workflowsEscalates risks, errors, or sensitive issues quickly and appropriatelyMay be assigned additional duties or tasks or other requirements as directed by the Director of communications and marketing.Skills and RequirementsBachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in communications, education operations, journalism, or related field3+ years experience in communications, editing, or school-facing communications workExcellent written English and strong editorial judgmentStrong organization and ability to manage competing deadlines with calm consistencyHigh level of attention to detailComfortable working with multiple stakeholders while upholding and enforcing standardsProficiency in photo editing software (Photoshop or similar)Proficiency in video editing software (Adobe Premiere or similar)Working knowledge of graphic design programs (InDesign, Illustrator, or similar)Basic understanding of content management systems (CMS), preferably WordPressExperience with email marketing platforms (Mailchimp or similar)Willing to attend school events and may occasionally work outside of school hoursPreferred Skills and RequirementsExperience in international schools or multilingual communitiesWorking proficiency in Spanish; additional languages an assetExperience with school communication apps, email tools, and content calendarsComfort with accessibility basics (plain language, readable formatting, headings, link clarity)Experience supporting communications around school events and complex schedules
