- Remuneration: $127,947 base pro-rata, plus 17% superannuation, leave loading and clinical loading

UNSW Rural brings world-class medical education to rural and regional Australia, delivering the full 6-year medical course at rural campuses across several locations. Face-to-face teaching supports rural program delivery, enabling students to build strong relationships with clinicians and the local medical community. The program supports RHMT aims and has delivered excellence in rural medical education for over 25 years.
Details of the role
UNSW’s Education Focused (EF) roles enable academics to specialise in education and devote time to delivering high-quality teaching and pursuing initiatives to enhance the student educational experience. The Lecturer, Rural role focuses on high-quality teaching with an interest in local rural medical education, health issues and related projects. The role contributes to the undergraduate medical education program with emphasis on applying Basic Sciences in Clinical Medicine and Multidisciplinary Care and Clinical Skills Techniques to deliver patient care in multidisciplinary teams. Reports to the Director of Medical Education at the campus and has no direct reports.
Key Skills Required
- Qualified medical practitioner: BMedMD/MBBS and Fellowship of a Specialist Medical College and eligible for medical registration in New South Wales, and/or a qualification in a relevant health discipline with current registration from AHPRA.
- Demonstrated teaching philosophy that inspires student learning in local rural medical and health environments.
- Experience delivering rurally focused content in lectures, tutorials, and small group teaching; capable of assessing learning, marking, examining, and innovating in learning activities across basic sciences, clinical coursework, and skills development.
- Support student learning progression in clinical skills techniques; provide guidance on multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes; assess learning achievements.
- Develop local research initiatives with LHD and primary health care networks; supervise ILP students where appropriate.
- Collaborate with peers across Rural Clinical Campuses and Faculty; build productive relationships and partnerships.
- Support recruitment of rural students through REAP; participate in interviews and training.
- Proven track record in practical undergraduate teaching and supervision with commitment to rural medical and health education.
- Experience in large and small group teaching; ability to apply teaching methodologies including online delivery and educational technology.
- Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to network and work in a diverse team environment.
