Principal Data Engineer – Technical Lead

Bunge is a world leader in sourcing, processing and supplying oilseed and grain products. The Principal Data Engineer – Technical Lead will lead a global data engineering team, delivering next‐generation data platform solutions that empower business decisions across the organization.
Overview
As a strategic leader, you will design, build and evolve a scalable data platform in a cloud environment, driving data governance, platform performance and data analytics initiatives. You will collaborate with stakeholders, influence data strategy and mentor a high‐performing engineering team.
Essential Functions
Lead a team of Data Engineers, providing mentorship, coaching and career development.
Define and execute a long‐term vision for Bunge's data platform aligned with business objectives.
Design, develop and implement a scalable, secure and reliable data platform using cloud technologies and modern data engineering principles.
Implement data governance policies to maintain data accuracy, consistency and regulatory compliance.
Monitor platform performance, identify improvement areas and optimize for high availability, scalability and cost‐effectiveness.
Build relationships with business stakeholders, data scientists and IT teams to understand data needs.
Research and evaluate emerging technologies and trends to recommend innovative solutions for Bunge's data capabilities.
Influence data strategy and operations across Bunge's general footprint.
Shape the Data Platform roadmap and vision, ensuring excellence in data platform operations at global scale.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field; Master's degree preferred.
7+ years of experience in data engineering; at least 3 years in a management role.
Extensive experience building and managing large‐scale data platforms in a cloud environment.
Proven ability to lead and develop high‐performing engineering teams.
Expertise in SQL, Python and modern data engineering tools (GCP BigQuery, DataStream, DataProc, DBT/Dataform).
Experience with cloud platforms: GCP (preferred), AWS or Azure.
Strong background in data warehousing, data lake technologies (BigQuery, Snowflake).
Knowledge of data governance and security best practices in cloud environments.
Experience with IaC in data (Terraform) and data mesh/Lake‐House concepts.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
