Chief Python Data Engineer: Lead Global Data PlatformsEPAM Systems
A multinational IT services company is seeking a Chief Python Data Engineer to guide the strategic design, implementation, and management of advanced data solutions. You will shape innovative projects, applying cutting‐edge tools and driving collaboration across teams to establish resilient data ecosystems that align with organizational goals.
Responsibilities include supervising, refining, and upholding backend services and background tasks in Python using frameworks such as FastAPI; strategizing and optimizing data processing operations utilizing Pandas, Polars, openpyxl, and DuckDB; directing the conceptualization and enhancement of sophisticated data architectures, including data lakes, medallion layers, and star schemas; establishing and scaling robust CI/CD frameworks using GitHub Actions or equivalent technologies; managing rollout and monitoring of scalable solutions on Azure, leveraging Container Apps, Azure Storage, Service Bus, and SignalR; defining and implementing infrastructure provisioning using tools like Bicep, AWS CDK, or Terraform; advancing the adoption of GitHub Copilot and Claude Code; coordinating cross‐functional collaboration to ensure system performance, scalability, and reliability; addressing high‐level engineering and architectural challenges; and directing monitoring systems to ensure timely resolution of key issues.
Requirements: Extensive Python expertise (7+ years) in developing web services and managing background processes with FastAPI; at least 2 years of relevant leadership experience in engineering or architecture roles; advanced knowledge of libraries and tools such as Pandas, Polars, openpyxl, and DuckDB; proficiency in designing and implementing complex data architectures such as medallion layers, data lakes, and star schemas; extensive experience scaling CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions or similar tools; proven expertise with Azure services like Container Apps, Service Bus, SignalR, and Azure Storage; in‐depth understanding of infrastructure‐as‐code tools with advanced project delivery using Bicep, AWS CDK, or Terraform; demonstrated capability to utilize GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to enhance software development workflows; fluent English at a C1 level. Nice to have: Expertise in advanced orchestration and transformation tools such as Airflow, dbt, and Streamlit; knowledge of distributed processing, asynchronous workflows, and enterprise messaging patterns; proficiency in Snowflake including streams, tasks, pipes, stored procedures, and time‐travel use cases; competency in .NET web development for legacy front‐end solutions built in .NET; skills in web development using frameworks like Angular or Next.js.
