About the Role
As an in-house Deputy Editor, you will assist the Editor-in-Chief in all aspects of the organisation and preparation of the journal. You will take ownership of submissions and peer review to ensure we publish high-quality content and train new Editors in the team. You will work closely with other journal editors in the Lancet family as well as our production, marketing, communications, and administration. You will build international relationships with experts in the community to disseminate and discuss practice-changing results from the field.

Responsibilities
1. Assisting the Editor-in-Chief with all operations of the journal;
2. Develop journal strategy, including development of special projects such as Series and Commissions;
3. Assisting with timely production of 12 journal issues;
4. Providing training and mentorship to new Editors on the team, focusing on manuscript evaluation, peer-review processes, editorial writing, and commissioning;
5. Writing editorials, organizing peer review of articles, and conducting webinars and podcasts with authors and key opinion leaders;
6. Develop and maintain relationships with medical research communities to solicit high-quality research, particularly clinical trials, for the journal;
7. Attend conferences and other events to represent the journal, identify suitable topics and authors, and stay up-to-date with current developments in medical research.
Requirements
8. Have editorial experience at a senior level, with a good understanding of editorial process and journal production;
9. A medical degree in a relevant discipline or a higher degree (PhD) in a relevant discipline (eg, biomedical science, public health, global health);
10. Have the ability to demonstrate thorough knowledge of clinical and global public health pertaining to WHO Europe region;
11. Have the ability to engage and build relationships with external stakeholders;
12. Have excellent organisational skills and the ability to work efficiently to demanding deadlines;
13. Have excellent command of the English language and the ability to write in an engaging and interesting manner;
14. Display proficiency with IT systems including MS Office;
15. Have a genuine commitment to equity in health and health care;
16. Possess an unfailingly can-do attitude;
17. You're located in Barcelona or London.
Work life
For this particular role, we do not expect daily attendance in the office but believe that regular in-person team meetings can be beneficial for us all. You will have a clearly defined schedule of work, and the way you use your weekly hours to complete it will be up to you.
