We're looking for passionate individuals to join a new demonstrator project that is shaping the future of sustainable aviation by advancing the aircraft electrification roadmap.
This project will focus on the challenges and opportunities of High Voltage Electrical Systems, which are essential for next-generation, low-emission aircraft part of Airbus ambition to electrify the skies.
As part of a fast-paced, agile team, you will help create a unique, state-of-the-art test facility from the ground up. Your mission will be to explore novel HV technologies at their limits and beyond, generating invaluable data and learnings needed to build the robust and reliable aircraft of tomorrow by safely testing the unsafe.
The Electrical System Architect (M/F) position is within Airbus UpNext and it consists of a limited contract linked to the deliverable of the demonstrator (estimated completion date April - 2028 ), starting ASAP. *
* As the Electrical System Architect, you will be responsible for the Product we are testing - the High Voltage architecture that will be subjected to extreme conditions to prove our technologies ready for the future. Leading a specialized team of 2-3 System Engineers, you will select the most promising prototypes of a nominal HV electrical solution composed of Batteries, Converters and Distribution systems and steer the evolution of these prototypes towards a design robust enough to yield valuable data and learnings.
* Team Leadership: Manage and guide a squad of System Engineers. You will align the team's technical output with the overall architecture and project timeline.
* HV Architecture Design : Define the overall Electrical & Control architecture for the SUT comprising HV Batteries, Power Converters, Power Distribution System and EWIS composed of the most relevant, promising Airbus prototypes covering Project Top Level Requirements.
* Define the specific isolation barriers and protection mechanisms (fuses, contactors, pyros) that will be tested for selectivity and non-propagation performance.
* Integration : Plan, implement and oversee functional and multi-system components V&V;, and component integration including functional interfaces between systems and the rest of the test platform components. Cascade and clarify accepted mechanical and electrical interfaces / instrumentation needs to other project stakeholders' (E2E Bench Manager / E2E Test Manager / Test Support & Control engineers) ensuring the solution proposed fulfills required functionalities.
The responsibilities and the technical scope of the job might evolve according to the agile working environment of the project, so being flexible is important.
* Master Degree in Electrical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or related field. 10+ years of experience in Electrical System Architecture, preferably in Aerospace (E-VTOL, Hybrid-Electric) or high-performance Automotive (EV).
* Professional network including industrial players, research institutions, consultants, regulators.
* Language: English at negotiation level. Spanish would be an advantage since it is valued for managing local interfaces and regulations.
* Pivotal Role in a Strategic Mission: play a key part in a project at the forefront of aircraft electrification contributing to Airbus's decarbonization roadmap.
* Work on the Edge of Technology: Explore disruptive technologies at their limits, deepening your knowledge of complex phenomena like arc-flash events and the effects of high-altitude conditions on electrical systems.
* Agile and Empowering Environment: Be part of a high-achieving, experienced and fun team in a shared open-space office with highly skilled colleagues. Flexibility & Fun: Enjoy the ability to craft your calendar with flexible hours and the opportunity to work remotely, alongside regular UpNext community bonding events. The responsibilities and the technical scope of the job might evolve according to the agile working environment of the project, so being flexible is important.
