Responsibilities
* Oversee the launch of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) in 2025, working closely with global AWS teams and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology.
* Collaborate with technology leaders, contribute to day‑to‑day operations, and ensure improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency for EU customers.
* Operate and improve one of the largest software systems, reviewing the operational health of services under your care and writing actionable bug reports.
* Plan and execute changes following a formal change‑management process, ensuring that no production changes are made without proper authorization.
* Resolve the team’s backlog of operational issues and develop scripts that accelerate root‑cause analysis.
* Participate in on‑call rotations to resolve incidents occurring out of office hours.
Eligibility
* Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
* Candidate must be a national of an EU member state and reside within the EU to operate the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.
* Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.
* Employees will participate in an on‑call rota.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or related IT discipline) or equivalent industry experience.
* Knowledge or experience in scripting (Bash, Python, or Ruby) or software development (Java, TypeScript, or similar), coupled with Linux and networking fundamentals to troubleshoot and optimize system performance and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications
* Ability to execute standard operating procedures and follow operational best practices.
* Knowledge or experience operating services in AWS or other cloud systems.
* Experience operating 24x7 high‑availability, distributed software applications and performing performance tuning, fleet utilization, and monitoring using tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, or Elastic.
* Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible). xpzdshu
