Learning Support Assistant

Support for Pupils
Use specialist (EYFS/curricular/learning) skills/training/experience to support pupilsEstablish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations with positive reinforcement of good behaviourPromote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroomSupport pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs and the delivery of tailored learning activities as devised by the teacher, either in a small group setting or on a one-to-one basisEncourage pupils to interact and work cooperatively with othersEngage all pupils in activities which are suitable for their agePromote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self-relianceGuiding, monitoring and recording student progress. Provide feedback to pupil in relation to development and achievement
Support for the Teacher
Working with the guidance and direction of teachers or leadersWork with the teacher to establish an appropriate learning environmentWork with the teacher in lesson planning, evaluating and adjusting lessons/work plans as appropriateMonitor and evaluate pupils response to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against predetermined learning objectivesProvide objective and accurate feedback and reports along with appropriate evidence to support themBe responsible for keeping and updating records as agreed with the teacher, contributing to reviews of systems/records as requestedUndertake marking of pupils’ work and accurately record achievement/progressPromote positive values, attitudes and good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviourLiaise sensitively and effectively with parents/carers as agreed with the teacher within your role/responsibility and participate in feedback sessions/meetings with parents with, or as directed
Support for the Curriculum
Implement agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses/needsImplement EYFS Framework or UK National Curriculum and make effective use of opportunities provided by other learning activities to support the development of relevant skillsSupport the use of technology in learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its useHelp pupils to assess learning activities through specialist supportDetermine the need for, prepare and maintain general and specialist equipment and resources
Support for the School
Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection reporting all concerns to an appropriate personBe aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and developContribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the schoolEstablish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/professionals in liaison with the teacher to support achievement and progress of pupilsAttend and participate in regular teaching assistant meetingsParticipate in training and other learning activities as requiredRecognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support othersSupervise pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as requiredProvide support outside of class, such as covering short term absences of teaching assistant, teacher colleaguesCovering lunch time, break time and end of day duties

Participate in any relevant meetings/professional development opportunities at the school, which relate to the learners, curriculum or organisation of the school and assembliesWork as a team member and identify opportunities for working with colleagues and sharing the development of effective practice with themContribute to the selection and professional developmentEnsure that colleagues working with you are appropriately involved in supporting learning and understand the roles they are expected to fulfillCover for absent colleagues if required

Professional development
Regularly review the effectiveness of your teaching and assessment procedures and its impact on pupils’ progress, attainment and well being, refining your approaches where necessary responding to advice and feedback from colleaguesBe responsible for improving your teaching through participating fully in training and development opportunities identified by the school or as developed as an outcome of your appraisal
Requirements
Excellent communication and listening skillsGood organisational skills to plan the day and respond to the different needs of the children you teachThe ability to inspire and enthuse young childrenEnergy, resourcefulness, responsibility, patience and a caring natureAn understanding of the needs and feelings of childrenAbility to work independently with children, as well as being able to work in the wider Early Years/school teamA sense of humour and the ability to keep things in perspectiveExperience and a solid understanding of the EYFS CurriculumA demonstrable knowledge of children's development, their needs and the provision of positive playTeaching assistant, Learning Support assistant or other equivalent Early Years Practitioner qualification.A native or C1 level speaker of EnglishSatisfactory DBS and reference checks
