At GVI Tenerife, you’ll be living on one of the world's most stunning and ecologically diverse island destinations, helping guide research projects & support volunteers.

**✨ WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS**
As a Field Assistant in Tenerife, you will support the rest of the GVI team in the day-to-day running of the programs, and specifically assist with managing the participants and students who form part of our groups. The main goal of the Field Assistant is to ensure our groups have the most fantastic experience during their time with GVI.

This is a role for someone who thrives in the field, who understands the balance between rigorous science, engaging training, and real-life field challenges.

**WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING**
- Supporting the running of projects and the daily running of the GVI base
- Assisting with project work including planning sessions
- Managing the groups on a day-to-day basis, ensuring they have a positive experience
- Interacting with local partners for certain activities
- Delivering presentations and training relevant to the project activities
Acting as an enthusiastic role model for participants and providing guidance and mentorship**WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM**
- Passion for sustainable development & marine conservation.
- People-centric mindset - comfortable with being ‘on’ 24/7.
- Experience managing and overseeing groups/participants/students (we will provide all project-specific training in-country).
- EU Passport or valid work permit.
- **Advantageous**:

- Previous GVI experience
- Understanding of local culture
Emergency First Response certified/trained

Set in southern Tenerife, just a short walk from the coastline and Puerto Colón, our base offers the perfect balance of fieldwork and exploration. Days are active and the pace can be demanding, but the comfortable shared accommodation, pool, and mountain-and-ocean surroundings make it an inspiring place to live and work.

Base Life & Facilities
- Comfortable dorm rooms (accommodating 6-10 people)
- Shared kitchen, balcony and communal spaces
- Wi-Fi on base
Hot showers (note: only for showers - not from the taps)

️ Food & Meals
- Breakfast: includes a continental selection of cereals, toast, jams, fruit, coffee and tea.
- Lunch: salads and sandwiches
- Dinner: prepared by participants on a rota basis, offering a variety of meals with vegetarian and vegan options available
- We cater for most dietary needs
We cook for ourselves (staff and volunteers take turns)Transport & Access
- Bus station: 20-30 minute walk (affordable but not always frequent)
Local taxis are expensive and rarely used unless in groupsFitness & Field Conditions
- You’ll need the fitness to walk beaches for surveys and clean-ups, or spend several hours out at sea on boats
- Expect long days, heat, and hilly terrain that can make activities physically demanding
The pace is active but rewarding - you’ll contribute to conservation while enjoying trekking opportunities in the mountains during your free timeWhat to Pack

Backpack and daypack, sturdy hiking boots or comfortable walking shoes, sandals, swimwear, casual outdoor clothing, warm layers for mountain hikes, lightweight raincoat, hat and sunglasses, reusable water bottle, laptop/tablet, torch/headlamp, toiletries and personal medication, insect repellent, high-SPF sunscreen, and plenty of energy for long days in the field.
