We are seeking a highly experienced multi-skilled Lead Cloud Data Architect & DBA – AWS to oversee the management, performance, and strategic direction of our cloud-based database infrastructure supporting mission-critical online payment systems. This role requires deep technical expertise in AWS-native databases—specifically DynamoDB, RDS PostgreSQL, and MongoDB—as well as a strong command of data architecture, governance, and operational best practices across our OLTP systems.
In addition to hands-on database responsibilities, the Lead DBA will serve as a technical leader, manager, and mentor for a small team of data engineers, collaborating closely with application developers, DevOps, and cybersecurity teams to ensure secure, scalable, and efficient data operations. The ideal candidate brings both tactical execution skills and strategic vision for evolving our data platforms in a fast-paced, high-availability environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage and optimize the performance, availability, and scalability of databases in AWS, including DynamoDB, RDS PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and OpenSearch.
* Implement and maintain backup, recovery, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) strategies for all managed databases.
* Monitor database performance and proactively address issues related to latency, throughput, and resource consumption.
* Define and evolve the data architecture to support robust, secure, and scalable storage patterns across multiple AWS database services, especially as they relate to Payments and our ecosystem.
* Enforce and evolve data governance policies, including data classification, lineage, and access controls.
* Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements for data privacy, integrity, and retention.
* Lead, manage, and mentor a small team of data engineers, promoting continuous learning, collaboration, and high performance.
* Delegate operational tasks and support development efforts to balance the team’s workload and improve delivery velocity.
* Conduct regular code and solution architecture reviews, fostering a culture of accountability and technical excellence.
* Collaborate with software engineers, DevOps, product owners, and security teams to ensure database solutions meet application requirements.
* Act as the data SME in cross-functional initiatives, including platform modernization and payment system enhancements, ensuring system observability and adherence to best-in-class APM standards.
* Communicate database performance metrics, risks, and improvement plans to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Implement database security best practices, including encryption, IAM policies, role-based access control, and audit logging.
* Ensure compliance with internal policies and external standards such as PCI DSS for online payment systems.
Requirements
Your expertise in a nutshell:
* Minimum of 6 years experience leading teams within a database and software development/implementation environment.

* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related field.
* Previous experience in the online payments industry is highly appreciated.
