Job Description
Vanderlande’s Technology Department is responsible for the design, specification and commissioning of material handling systems for our customers. In this position you will work in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative customer-focused environment to determine and translate customer needs into simple and effective design solutions, provide accurate time estimates, produce manufacturing and assembly drawings, manage documentation, and create BOMs.
As Apprentice for Software Developer (PLC) you will support on design, develop and test our PLC operating systems (Siemens TIA Portal & Allen Bradley STUDIO 5000). You will learn how to draw up the requirements for the systems, and develop efficient and effective solutions together with the multidisciplinary project team. In addition, you will analyze risks, solve problems and help to make improvements with other Software Developers.
These products will be used as building blocks by the Engineering department, who will subsequently integrate them into systems for our worldwide clients. Where necessary, you will support your colleagues in this integration process.
Essential Functions (Job Duties and Responsibilities):
* Support other Developers to translate concepts into realized alternatives, with a focus on own discipline, taking into account the functionality, feasibility, quality, manufacturability, costs, and completion time.
* Takes into account other relevant disciplines. Makes optimum use of team members’ expertise.
* Support for maintaining VI Equipment Product lines, including supporting documentation.
* Analyze a design and its deliverables, according to our processes, in order to guarantee a smooth transitions to the relevant stakeholders.
* Support the start-ups and the rest of the departments that require their support, as well as ensure that safety and quality standards are met.
* Occasional travel to manufacturing facilities and project sites to evaluate processes and design improvements (<10%).
Required Education and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology (e.g. Electronics, Mechatronics or Software related).
* Knowledge of TIA Portal.
* Understand Electrical drawings.
* Knowledge/Experience of EU and US electrical and safety norms.
* Desired to have experience not only PLC, also Frequency Inverters, HMI, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Desired experience designing automated system with PLC controlled systems, including safety designs, motor protection and control, and Industrial Communication and networking (i.e. ASibus, Ethernet, TCP/IP, Profinet).
* Desired experience field engineering on site.
Knowledge-Skills-Abilities (Competencies):
* Understanding of a variety of hardware.
* Understanding of product data/document lifecycle management software.
* Knowledge of Object Oriented Programming.
* Knowledge of controls engineering theories and principles.
* Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Self-motivated.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
* Knowledge of Agile processes and related frameworks, such as SAFe.
