About BSC

- The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is involved in European HPC initiatives. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies to facilitate scientific progress, combining HPC service provision and R&D in computer and computational sciences.

Context And Mission

- Despite increasing awareness of climate change impacts on health, our ability to quantify the extent to which climate change worsens health outcomes remains limited. Impact attribution studies can provide essential policy input by quantifying climate-related health burdens and linking greenhouse gas emissions to health outcomes, informing risk assessments, public health interventions, and policy decisions.

- The GHR group conducts research on environmental change impacts on infectious disease risk, developing indicators and forecasting models for health impact assessment. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with international climate and health scientists and practitioners to support decision-making, adaptation, mitigation, and financial planning across the globe.

Key Duties
* Co-design innovative impact attribution methodologies for climate-related health risks.
* Harmonize multi-source, multi-scale datasets related to climate, land, demographics, socio-economics, human movement, and health.
* Develop statistical, machine learning, and mathematical models to analyze environmental and socio-economic impacts on infectious diseases and health outcomes.
* Create indicators to monitor climate change effects on health.
* Contribute to open-source modeling tools, e.g., R packages.
* Incorporate inequalities and injustices into research.
* Develop communication materials and disseminate research through publications and conferences.
* Collaborate within the team and with external stakeholders, including communities and policymakers.
* Support administrative tasks and contribute to funding proposals.
Requirements
* Education: BSc and MSc in Epidemiology, Biology, Ecology, Meteorology, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields. PhD in relevant areas is preferred.
* Experience in data management, statistical analysis, and programming in R or Python.
* Knowledge of version control systems like git.
* Excellent communication skills in English, demonstrated through publications and documentation.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, international team.
