General Description:
This position is within the Environment and Human Rights Corporate Department, reporting to Telefonica’s Chief Sustainability Officer. The department develops strategies to manage risks and opportunities related to environment, climate change, sustainable supply chain, and human rights at a global level.
Main functions:
The environmental expert will participate in projects related to environment and circular economy regulations, including:
* Implementing projects to address regulatory gaps in circularity, environmental due diligence, water, biodiversity, etc.
* Defining processes and supporting internal transformation projects locally and globally.
* Supporting water footprint calculations, water reduction initiatives, and risk assessments.
* Conducting environmental due diligence across the value chain.
Environmental information reporting and assurance (CSRD):
* Contributing to Telefónica's annual non-financial report following CSRD standards.
* Supporting internal controls and auditing of non-financial information.
* Executing projects to meet new environmental regulation requirements, including those related to circularity.
Carbon footprint management and reduction initiatives (Scope 3):
* Collaborating on initiatives to reduce carbon footprint, including renewables, efficiency, and circular economy practices.
* Implementing carbon pricing strategies within the company.
* Assisting in calculating Scope 3 emissions across all locations.
Circular economy:
* Supporting circular economy strategies, such as eco-design and procurement criteria.
* Tracking circularity metrics like reuse, refurbishment, and recycling.
* Engaging with customers to promote device return and buyback programs.
Participation in sector initiatives, taskforces, and working groups related to environment, water, biodiversity, and circular economy.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or related fields; postgraduate studies in environment and climate change are a plus.
* Relevant environmental management training is valued.
Experience:
* 3-5 years in environmental topics within companies or consultancies.
* Experience with environmental management systems (ISO 14001, 45001) and KPI reporting is advantageous.
Languages:
* Fluent in English and Spanish; additional languages like Portuguese and German are a plus.
Skills:
* Passion and interest in sustainability trends and challenges.
* Analytical skills to identify gaps and opportunities.
* Teamwork and project participation in international environments.
* Ability to produce reports, presentations, and papers.
* Strong communication and writing skills.
