DESCRIPTION :
Amazon is looking for a detail-oriented individual to join our Data Center Engineering Operations Team. This team maintains the critical physical infrastructure supporting Amazon Web Services, ensuring the data center's MEP operates at 100% availability while providing excellent customer service.
As the Data Center Chief Engineer (CE), you will ensure all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment operate at peak efficiency through planned maintenance, corrective work, and emergency responses. You will serve as a technical expert reporting to the Data Center Facility Manager, collaborating with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and third-party vendors. Your role is critical in maintaining over 99.999% uptime for mission-critical servers.
You will manage small to medium projects from conception to completion, involving independent work and collaboration with various support groups across local and global settings. Your responsibilities include creating milestones, managing costs, and documenting project outcomes to improve future implementations. The goal is to drive innovation, resiliency, and operational cost reduction.
You will also direct, train, and support Engineering Operations Technicians in troubleshooting and operating electrical and mechanical equipment, including generators, switchgear, UPS, PDU, AHU, chillers, cooling towers, chemical systems, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.
Key job responsibilities
1. Oversee daily operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment.
2. Operate independently with limited management oversight.
3. Act as escalation point for facilities issues, escalating as needed.
4. Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
5. Troubleshoot and report facility and server-level events within SLA.
6. Create and implement standard practices for operations and support teams.
7. Provide training and guidance to technicians.
8. Ensure safety procedures are followed.
9. Manage workflows using internal CMMS.
10. Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical audiences.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree in engineering, mechanical, or electrical trades.
* Experience in industrial or data center engineering.
* At least 2 years of relevant work experience in critical environments.
