We are looking for a
Senior Combustion Device Engineer
in
Barcelona.
About the role:
You will be leading the development of the thrust chamber and combustion devices of the Arcos aerospike engine and Kronos full-flow staged combustion engine. You will be supporting the development of the thrust chambers for the U-Nyx family of in-space propulsion systems. You will be working in the Combustion Devices team, in the Propulsion department, closely interacting with the Systems, Turbopump, and Feed System teams. You will be joining exciting projects that are shaping the future on space propulsion, from aerospike to full-flow staged combustion technologies to build the future very-high thrust engine of Europe.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design, analysis, and optimization of thrust chambers and combustion devices for the Arcos aerospike engine and Kronos full-flow staged combustion engineSupport the design, analysis, and optimization of thrusters for the U-Nyx in-space propulsion systemsEnsure that thrust chamber designs meet performance, reliability, and safety requirementsWork closely with the Combustion Devices team within the Propulsion departmentCollaborate with the Systems, Turbopump, Feed System, CFD, and Mechanical teams to ensure seamless integration and functionalityManage project timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure successful completion of thrust chamber development milestonesConduct regular progress reviews and report on project status to stakeholdersLead problem-solving efforts and drive innovation in thrust chamber technologyPlan and oversee testing and validation activities for thrust chambersAnalyse test data and implement design improvements based on test resultsEnsure all design and development activities are thoroughly documentedEnsure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirementsStay updated with the latest advancements in thrust chamber and propulsion technologiesImplement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance thrust chamber performance and efficiency
What you need to be successful:
Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related fieldMinimum of 15 years of experience in thrust chamber or rocket engine developmentIn-depth knowledge of thrust chamber design, analysis, and optimization for rocket enginesStrong understanding of liquid rocket engine systems and their subsystems, including aerospike and full-flow staged combustion technologiesProficiency in using advanced simulation tools (e.G., CFD, FEA) for analyzing fluid dynamics and structural integrityFamiliarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements for space propulsion systemsExperience with high-thrust engine development projectsAbility to analyze complex problems and develop innovative solutionsFlexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and prioritiesProven ability to manage projects, including timelines, resources, and budgetsExperience in systems engineering and managing complex systems
Other useful skills:
Master’s or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related fieldPrevious involvement in European space propulsion projectsKnowledge of advanced materials and manufacturing techniques for thrust chambersExperience with cryogenic propellants and their handlingExcellent communication skillsAbility to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving project requirementsFluent in English;
proficiency in Spanish and French is a plusMeticulous attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and reliability of designs and analysesCapability to provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
