Role:
We are looking for a passionate privacy and data protection trainee to ensure our company adheres to highest privacy standards and in-house policies for Europe region as part of the growing Risk & Compliance Center, in a highly dynamic and international environment.
The position will be based in Madrid and the position will directly report to the Data Protection Officer for Europe region.
The offered position is a great opportunity to manage privacy matters across Europe jurisdictions, to build own data protection procedures, and to contribute to Xiaomi's expansion in the European market meeting the highest privacy & ethical standards.
Tasks:
• Assist the team in reviewing and maintaining internal data protection policies and procedures in line with applicable privacy regulations (in particular the GDPR) and internal policies, including Xiaomi's Code of Conduct;
• Assist the team in the management of data subject rights' requests (e.g. access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability), including supporting the intake, tracking, and preparation of responses under the supervision of the Data Protection team;
• Support the preparation and organization of documentation related to privacy compliance activities (e.g. records, internal documentation, and supporting materials);
• Assist the team in reviewing privacy-related documentation, including templates, guidelines, and internal policies;
• Support the team in monitoring the implementation of privacy controls across different business units;
• Assist in the preparation of privacy impact assessments (DPIAs) and other privacy risk assessments under the supervision of the DPO and the data protection team;
• Contribute to internal reviews aimed at identifying potential privacy risks or compliance gaps;
• Provide support in the preparation of materials related to interactions with data protection authorities where required;
• Assist in the preparation and coordination of privacy training and awareness initiatives for employees across Europe;
• Support the drafting and updating of internal guidelines, policies, and privacy-related documentation;
• Assist the team in the preparation of periodic privacy audits and internal compliance assessments;
• Collaborate with members of the Risk & Compliance center, Legal team, Internal Audit department, supporting coordination with the privacy team at headquarters in Beijing;
• Provide general administrative and research support to the Risk & Compliance center on data protection matters.

Mandatory qualifications:
- Student currently enrolled in a university degree, preferably a Master's programme, in Law, Compliance, Data Protection, Technology Law, or a related field;
- Academic focus or demonstrated interest in data protection, privacy, digital regulation, or technology-related legal matters;
- Basic understanding of European data protection law (in particular the GDPR);
- Fluent in English. Knowledge of additional European languages (e.g. French, German, Polish, or Spanish) will be considered a must. Knowledge of Chinese will be a plus;
- Strong analytical and research skills, with attention to detail;
- Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a structured manner;
- Ability to work in an international and multicultural environment.
Internship eligibility requirements:
• The student must hold a valid visa or legal authorization to undertake the internship in the country where the position is located;
• The student's educational institution must be able to issue a tripartite internship agreement (student – university – company);
• The internship must be directly related to the student's academic major or field of study.
