Dow Jones is looking for a publishing editor for its real-time Newswires operation focused on business, finance, markets and economies across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Based in Barcelona, this editor will be a wordsmith who can digest copy quickly and thoroughly for style and substance. You will ensure our content, written in English, meets the highest standards for our financial professional audiences. 
This is an exciting role and an opportunity to join a fast-paced, vibrant, and adaptable team publishing articles for the world’s premier business news outlet. 
As a publishing editor, you will handle short stories from writers covering the news as it happens.The working environment will be fast-paced, high-volume and multilingual, requiring seamless teamwork with colleagues locally, in our European head office in London and across our integral hubs. 
You should have first-rate written and spoken English and the ability to balance accuracy and speed. Knowledge of corporate earnings, financial statements, economic indicators and financial markets is expected. An ability to quickly grasp software and technology is important, especially in news production and data handling. 
An important part of the role includes communicating in real-time with other editors, reporters and coverage chiefs across the region and more broadly. The ability to work varying shifts is also required. 
You Will: 
- Report to the Senior Publishing Editor. 
- Exercise exceptional news judgment in editing and fast-paced publishing of breaking news headlines and stories. 
- Recognize the core audiences for WSJ and Dow Jones Newswires, and their needs and expectations. 
- Help connect the content with the audience. 
- Uphold Dow Jones standards and ethics. 
- Collaborate with reporters and editors from other groups. 
- Communicate precisely, with compassion. 
- Meet deadlines. 
- Be proactive rather than reactive. 
You Have: 
- A demonstrated ability to quickly and sharply edit for grammar, style, sense, jargon, accuracy, structure, balance and fairness. 
- A depth of financial knowledge to quickly assess and prioritize headline writing and editing of breaking news coming in through multiple channels. 
- An understanding of WSJ's brand, content and several digital and print platforms. 
- Expertise at using different publishing systems and platforms. 
- Proficiency in using technology to enhance speed and efficiency of monitoring news, checking facts, handling urgent stories and communicating across teams. 
- Expertise in using Google sheets and/or knowledge of Python would be a distinct advantage. 
- A well-honed sense of urgency along with a capacity to remain calm under pressure. 
- A demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and time while handling multiple responsibilities.
