We are hiring a Web Engineering Manager to collaborate across teams, including product managers and engineering teams, to deliver reliable, scalable, and user-friendly experiences for Canonical products.
As an Engineering Manager, your primary focus is on supporting your team: fostering growth, ensuring valuable work, and maintaining a positive environment. You will provide technical leadership, challenge, and support your engineers, influence culture, and work on strategy and execution.
Location: This role is remote within the EMEA region.
Responsibilities include:
1. Demonstrate sound engineering principles by contributing to your team's goals
2. Estimate work, set goals, and meet them
3. Design and implement well-tested and documented software in Web technologies or Flutter
4. Debug and resolve user issues
5. Participate in code and architectural reviews
6. Collaborate on technical specifications with community and colleagues
7. Contribute to technical documentation
8. Improve engineering and operational practices
9. Deploy and operate team-developed services
10. Support product success through technical advocacy
Candidate requirements:
1. Passionate about web and software development
2. Strong soft skills: passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, self-motivated
3. Excellent academic record
4. Degree in Computer Science/STEM or equivalent experience
5. Proven drive and ability to exceed expectations
6. Organized, self-starting, reliable
7. Professional in interactions with colleagues and partners
8. Experience with high-quality Web technologies, Typescript, React, or Flutter
9. Focus on accessibility and performance
10. Fluent in English
11. Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
12. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
13. Result-oriented and committed to deadlines
14. Willing to travel twice a year for company events
Nice-to-have skills:
1. Experience with container technologies like LXD, Docker, Kubernetes
2. Building and leading talented teams
3. REST API design and security expertise
4. Performance engineering and security experience
