Overview

The EMEA Process Safety Manager will direct and support the development, improvement, implementation, execution, and sustainment of Bunge’s Global Process Safety (GPS) and combustible dust programs across the EMEA footprint. Typical processes include oilseed extraction, ammonia refrigeration, hydrogenation, and other chemical operations. The manager is responsible for driving continuous improvement and reducing serious injury and fatality exposures associated with hazardous chemicals and combustible dusts, supporting “One Bunge” across multiple stakeholder groups, business lines, and geographic regions.

Key Responsibilities
* Manage and implement Bunge Global Process Safety (GPS) and Combustible Dust Standards.
* Provide feedback and check mechanisms to ensure programs reduce catastrophic incident risks.
* Partner with Technology–CoE subject matter experts to produce best‑in‑class process safety and combustible dust performance plans.
* Enhance organizational visibility and sensitivity to catastrophic incident risks.
* Participate in the Global Process Safety working group and the EMEA Safety Working Group.
* Influence key decision makers to promote Process Safety at all organizational levels.
* Incorporate Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles and practices into the programs.
* Develop an EMEA strategic improvement plan for GPS and Combustible Dust.
* Participate in external organizations and engage with stakeholders such as insurance, regulatory bodies, and trade organizations.
* Build capability to address safety risks through Inherently Safer Design (ISD) in facility builds and modifications.
* Coach direct reports and internal stakeholders in Process Safety excellence and operational discipline principles.
* Create proactive Process Safety actions during periods of organizational change.
* Evaluate the efficiency of existing programs and make recommendations to reduce waste.
* Coordinate and/or lead incident investigations on severe Process Safety and Combustible Dust events.
* Foster collaboration with other groups (maintenance, refinery, oilseed crushing, dust handling) to ensure a unified approach to process safety.
* Utilize Process Safety metrics to identify and correct weaknesses in management systems and operational discipline.
* Define, communicate, and apply process safety and combustible safety standards and practices.
* Stay engaged with the latest process safety trends and best practices to translate effective actions into Bunge operations.
* Drive human and organizational performance by incorporating HOP and critical risk management principles into the culture.
* Identify, coach, and develop Process Safety talent.
* Lead frequent data analysis to determine Process Safety and Combustible Dust risk trends.
* Participate in serious incident investigation processes, including remote or short‑notice travel as required.
* Lead or participate on audit teams for operational sites.
* Offer regional leadership to Bunge’s Environmental, Health, Safety, and Quality programs.
* Provide input on the safety of operations and commissioning activities related to major capital projects.
* Provide input on prevention of loss of life and life‑altering injuries, solutions to audit findings, and CAPEX expenditures.
Key Relationships & Stakeholders
* Process Safety Working Group – ensuring focus on key risks and effective communication of actions.
* Technology Working Groups – engaging technical SMEs.
* Industrial Directors – report progress, discuss challenges, allocate resources.
* EMEA Safety Director – report progress, forecast future.
* Capital Project Management Teams – engage in projects to promote Prevention Through Design and ISD solutions.
* Site Managers – coach and support Process Safety initiatives.
* Corporate Insurance Team – ensure insurable risks are addressed in the safety programs.
Competencies, Skills, & Knowledge
* Strong knowledge of process safety principles, methodologies, and regulations (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA, Bowtie, Seveso, ATEX, OSHA PSM).
* Project management and implementation/execution skills.
* Engineering problem‑solving skills.
* Ability to engage others at a strategic level to articulate Bunge’s safety vision and priorities.
* Fluency in English.
* 25–50% travel across Europe, including occasional weekends.
* Frequent interaction through video conferences, sometimes outside core hours.
* Demonstrated influential leadership to engage multiple levels of the organization.
* External relationships in Process and Combustible Dust safety for expertise.
* Ability to defend difficult/unpopular decisions with data, facts, and RAGAGEPs.
Education & Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Industrial Safety, or related field.
* Advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., NCEB‑PSM, CCPSC, SACHE) preferred.
* 10years of progressive leadership in Process Safety, Operations, or corporate safety program administration.
* Proven experience influencing people, plants, and peers across matrix organizations.
* Preferred graduate‑level education in Engineering, Business, or Industrial Safety.
