About the role
We are seeking an experienced Camunda Architect to lead the design, governance, and evolution of our enterprise-wide workflow and process orchestration platform. This role is responsible for defining the strategic architecture of the Camunda ecosystem, ensuring scalability, security, resilience, and alignment with enterprise technology standards.
As a key technical leader, you will partner closely with Product Owners, Platform Engineering teams, Solution Architects, and business stakeholders to drive the adoption of workflow automation capabilities and establish best practices across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
* Define and maintain the overall Camunda platform architecture and integration strategy.
* Design scalable, secure, and resilient workflow automation solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
* Establish technical standards, guardrails, and best practices for workflow and process orchestration.
* Develop reference architectures and reusable patterns for common automation and orchestration use cases.
* Drive architectural decisions that support long-term platform evolution and growth.
Governance & Platform Strategy
* Evaluate, recommend, and select platform components, tools, and technologies that enhance automation capabilities.
* Review complex implementations to ensure architectural compliance, quality, and consistency.
* Define platform roadmaps, upgrade strategies, and scalability plans.
* Provide architectural oversight and governance across workflow automation initiatives.
Platform Reliability & Non-Functional Requirements
Ensure the Camunda platform meets critical non-functional requirements, including:
* Scalability
* Security
* Performance
* Reliability and resilience
* Availability and disaster recovery readiness
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
* Partner with Product Owners, Platform Engineering teams, Solution Architects, and domain teams to guide platform adoption.
* Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and architectural stewardship to engineering teams.
* Facilitate alignment between business requirements and technical solutions.
* Communicate architectural vision, standards, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Skills & Experience
* Proven experience as a Camunda Architect, Lead Camunda Engineer, or Senior Camunda Engineer.
* Deep expertise in BPMN and DMN, workflow automation and process orchestration, event-driven architectures.
* Strong experience designing and operating highly available, enterprise-grade workflow platforms.
* Solid understanding of integration patterns, including REST APIs, messaging systems, and event streaming architectures.
* Experience with platform engineering practices, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps tooling, and cloud-native architectures.
* Ability to produce high-quality architectural documentation, standards, diagrams, and governance artefacts.
* Strong stakeholder management, communication, and leadership capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with Kubernetes and containerized workloads.
* Experience deploying and operating Camunda in cloud environments.
* Background in Java development or similar backend engineering technologies.
* Experience working within large, regulated enterprises (e.g., financial services, insurance, telecommunications, or government sectors).
* Previous experience in Solution Architecture or Enterprise Architecture roles.
