Job Title: Junior Accountant

Reports To: Accounting Manager

Direct Reports: N/A

Position Status: Full Time

Location: Maryland State-Wide, in person Monday-Thursday and Remote Fridays (First two weeks must be in-person for training)

Pay Range: $48,750-$54,600

Position Overview

The Junior Accountant will be responsible for ensuring the financial accuracy and integrity of multiple community-based programs across Maryland. This position will support the organization's fiscal health by managing invoicing, processing accounts receivable and expense reports, performing reconciliations, and assisting with general ledger entries. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to grow professionally, and committed to supporting a mission-driven organization that delivers critical services to underserved communities. This role offers hands-on experience in nonprofit accounting and opportunities for growth within a collaborative and supportive finance team.

Key Responsibilities (Including But Not Limited To)

Invoicing & Program Support

Responsible for managing invoicing processes for all programs (excluding APY), including:
o Returning Citizens Initiative
o Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP)
o Youth Workforce Development
o The Bridge Youth Shelter
o Navigation Services Program
o Juvenile Entry Diversion Initiative (JEDI)
o Gun Violence Diversion Prevention Program
o Re-engagement Program – Montgomery County
o Independent Living Program (ILP – in progress)
o Parent Mentoring Initiative (PMI)
o Mentoring Program
Maintain or support a calendar of financial reporting deadlines for funders, ensuring timely submissions in collaboration with program and finance staff.
Support the standardization and training of financial reporting tools and procedures across departments.

Expense Reports & Accounts Receivable

Process and review expense reports across all organizational programs, including the Alternative Placement for Youth Program (APY)
Manage and track Accounts Receivable (AR) to ensure timely collection and recording
Reconcile transactions and support monthly closing activities

Bank Reconciliation & Journal Entries

Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance
Assist with posting journal entries in the general ledger (eventually with guidance)
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records

Grant Tracking

Support grant tracking by monitoring receipts, disbursements, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements
Collaborate with program staff to gather necessary financial documentation for invoicing, reporting, and grant compliance

Audit Support

Assist in preparing materials for audits and contract monitoring site visits

Minimum Requirements

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
1–2 years of accounting experience preferred (nonprofit experience is a plus)
Strong understanding of general accounting principles and practices
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar)

Working Conditions

May require occasional in-state travel to program sites for financial coordination or training.
