Overview

We are looking for someone who is passionate about developing high-performance and/or highly-secured Java applications. Sqills, part of Siemens Mobility, is a leading technology company focused on providing innovative solutions for the public transport industry. We are dedicated to improving the passenger experience and increasing operational efficiency for our clients across the globe. We share one common goal: enhancing the passenger experience with our combined power for the future of Mobility. As an experienced Java Developer, you have a wide range of opportunities and a clear path for professional development within a mission-critical SaaS suite. We are looking for Java Developers who want to work with the latest techniques and continually challenge themselves. Siemens operates a Software Development Center in Valencia, Spain, focusing on Intelligent Solutions for the future of Mobility. We want YOU to join our team.

Our approach

This position is for one of our DevOps teams. DevOps teams develop and maintain microservices that are part of S3 Passenger, our ticket and seat-reservation backend system. Some microservices are high-performing and others require extra security because they handle payment data. The team also develops other applications in Java and is in charge of our CI/CD pipelines and related tooling. In addition to Java, the team may code in Kotlin and Go. The teams have the freedom to explore new technologies that can improve performance, and we strive to do so continuously. Sqills uses Terraform, Kubernetes and other tools to manage infrastructure as code. Our infrastructure includes traditional services, AWS Lambda, and managed services such as DynamoDB, RDS, AmazonMQ, CloudWatch and ELB. We monitor services in production using OpenTelemetry, New Relic and PagerDuty, and have a custom-built frontend that visualises distributed traces to help analyse errors in our microservice landscape. Secure development, architecture, performance and resiliency are cornerstone considerations across teams to meet and exceed expectations. We continually seek ways to improve our code with emphasis on performance, reliability and quality. We share workloads within the team and value everyone's strengths, helping each other achieve goals.

Your key responsibilities

- Collaborating on software used to find and book seats for major international travel brands like Eurostar, Renfe, and SNCF.
- Optimising the processing of asynchronous requests for high-availability, high-performance components and improving security where needed.
- Improving development pipelines or helping analyse new feature requests.
- Continuously refactoring code to improve its quality and performance.

Are you a match?

- Do you have what it takes to work on a mission critical Java microservice?
- Are you passionate about refactoring code and making it shine?
- Do you enjoy working in a team that welcomes new perspectives and is eager to hear your ideas?
- Do you get a warm feeling when thinking about learning a new programming language or technology?
- Are you proficient in Dutch and/or English and possess strong communication skills?
- Do you want to have a seriously good time doing all of this?
- Do you thrive in a "work hard and play hard" culture with team outings, company events, and other activities?

Curious?

Our software is complex enough, applying for a job shouldn't be. We will only ask for a name, a phone number or email address. We value diversity and encourage applications from a diverse talent pool. We welcome the opportunity to discuss flexibility requirements with our applicants to encourage agile working and innovation. Flexibility is our main benefit. We combine remote and presence work to support work-life balance and wellbeing. We believe staying at home helps concentration while being in the office enhances creativity and collaboration.
