Overview Freelance Editor/Proofreader – Russian Speaker. We are seeking a freelance editor to contribute to a Pan-European project for the European Training Foundation (ETF). The project aims to deliver high-quality technical editing in Russian, English and other working languages (Arabic and French), ensuring that all ETF documents are consistent, clear, and publication-ready. It will enhance the quality, readability, and accessibility of ETF materials, strengthen internal communication capacity, and support the effective dissemination of policy messages and knowledge products across Europe.
LOCATION: Flexible within the EU and partner countries
DURATION: 48 months (January 2025 – December 2029)
YOUR ROLE As Technical Editor, you will:
Proofread ETF documents, checking spelling, grammar, punctuation, formatting, and consistency.
Copy edit texts for clarity, conciseness, completeness, and consistency, while maintaining the original tone.
Perform substantive (developmental) editing, restructuring or rewriting text where needed, and adding references or content to enhance quality.
Compare multiple language versions of texts and align them with the source language (English).
Work in Microsoft Word (track changes) and occasionally in Adobe InDesign, paper, or online formats.
Ensure adherence to ETF house style and editorial standards.
Maintain regular communication with the contracting authority, providing updates on progress.
YOUR PROFILE Excellent command of Russian (written and spoken)
Excellent command of English (written and spoken)
Proficiency in Arabic or French will be considered an advantage
At least 2 years of experience editing texts on education, training, skills, or employment issues in a development context
Strong editorial skills, including proofreading, copy editing, and substantive editing
Familiarity with style guides and quality control checks for professional or institutional publications
Familiarity with multilingual editing and alignment of translated documents is an advantage
