About the Role
The mission of this role is to rebuild the CMDB from the ground up by defining a solid data model, governance, and structure, and establishing accurate, maintainable service maps that support incident management, change impact analysis, and overall operational effectiveness.
The role also supports the development and maintenance of foundational CMDB governance documentation
Key Duties:
CMDB Product Onboarding
* Lead end-to-end onboarding of products into the CMDB.
* Identify and document required CIs, including shared infrastructure.
* Capture correct CI classification, ownership, and lifecycle information.
Service Mapping
* Build and maintain logical and physical service maps for onboarded products.
* Map dependencies between CIs across applications, middleware, compute, network, cloud, etc.
* Validate maps reflect production reality and support impact/root-cause analysis.
Data Quality & Validation
* Validate CI attributes completeness and accuracy.
* Identify gaps, duplicates, or incorrect relationships and coordinate remediation with data owners. • Ensure mandatory attributes are completed before onboarding into production.
* Apply defined data-quality checks and escalate unclear rules.
Event & Monitoring Correlation
* Ensure mapped CIs are usable by monitoring and event correlation tools.
* Work with monitoring teams to align CI modeling with events, alerts, and correlation needs.
* Contribute to improving alert quality and dependency accuracy.
Collaboration & Execution Support
* Produce the foundational CMDB governance documentation (technical standards, modeling rules, data requirements) and provide feedback to support continuous improvement.
* Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, Engineering, Monitoring teams and CSO teams to gather correct inputs.
* Produce documentation for onboarded products and service maps.
* Define and establish CMDB standards and governance, including key design decisions, rather than relying on existing practices or escalating gaps. This role is accountable for shaping the CMDB structure from the ground up
* Contribute simple documentation and Knowledge Articles.
AI-Enabled Execution
• Leverage AI-assisted tools (e.g., Now Assist, Copilot, data-quality automation) to accelerate mapping, simplify repetitive tasks, and improve documentation consistency.
Deliverables
* Fully onboarded products, technical services, and infrastructure in the CMDB.
* Approved service maps (logical + physical).
* Data quality validation executed, and corrections coordinated.
* CMDB entries ready for consumption in incident, change, and event correlation processes.
* Foundational CMDB governance documentation delivered and updated based on feedback.
* AI-supported documentation and improved consistency in modeling and mapping artefact
What we are looking for:
Technical & Functional
* Strong knowledge of IT environments (applications, middleware, networks, compute, cloud)
* Strong experience with ServiceNow CMDB including Discovery & Reconciliation (IRE) ensuring accurate, de- duplicated data through proper configuration of relevant MID servers, credentials, schedules and CI class management
* Experience in execution (CI classes, relationships, Service Mapping)
* ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist CIS certification (CMDB, Discovery, Service Mapping) preferred.
* Minimum 3 years designing and implementing ServiceNow CMDB in enterprise environments
* Proven experience leading the design and build of ServiceNow CMDB in enterprise environments, including strong ownership of CSDM structure and architecture. Relevant certifications (e.g., CIS-Discovery, CIS-Service Mapping) are expected
* Solid understanding of monitoring/event concepts and CI Correlation
* Exposure to large-scale CMDB/ITOM initiatives
ITIL / Process
• Strong understanding of ITIL principles and core ITSM processes (Incident, Change, Problem, Service Transition) and how they consume CMDB data.
• Experience performing data-quality checks and coordinating remediation
AI Skills & Digital Fluency
* Ability to use AI tools (e.g., Now Assist, Microsoft 365 Copilot, etc..) to accelerate execution.
* Ability to prompt and evaluate AI-generated outputs safely and critically
* Interest in applying new AI capabilities to improve consistency, efficiency & avoid repetitive tasks.
Analytical & Problem Solving
• Excellent analytical skills to interpret complex dependencies, detect modeling inconsistencies, and resolve CI relationship issues.
• Ability to translate ambiguous technical inputs into clean CMDB models and service maps.
Collaboration & Communication
• Ability to produce clear, usable documentation (onboarding notes, mapping assumptions, simple Knowledge base articles). Pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset and strong attention to detail.
• Effective communication and collaboration with Product, Architecture, Engineering, and CSO stakeholders.
Ways of Working
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver to agreed timelines.
