Data Center Facility Manager, Data Center Community
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we’re looking for talented people who want to help. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate across AWS to deliver high safety and security standards while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. Key responsibilities
* Oversee all aspects of the data center's critical physical infrastructure. Ensure that all work performed within the space is done to high quality and without impact to internal/external customers.
* Manage teams of 24x7 engineering technicians in all facets of their career.
* Engage in improvement projects, often requiring reaching out to a variety of support teams, and drive them from conception to completion.
* Coordinate daily with a multitude of third party vendors ensuring adherence to contracted SLAs.
* Effectively and efficiently manage the operations budget and expenditures.
* Routinely operate as the afterhours on-call Data Center Facility Manager for the data centers in the region, including responding to issues and guiding investigation, mitigation, and recovery.
A day in the life
As the Facility Manager, you will demonstrate a strong commitment to prioritizing the development and well-being of team members, as well as fostering diversity and inclusion. You will oversee all facets of the data center's critical infrastructure with a focus on continuous availability and optimal performance, while upholding high-quality standards and minimizing any impact on internal and external customers. You will also play a crucial role in process optimization, staff management, setting performance metrics, and driving continuous improvement initiatives, all while ensuring a supportive and inclusive work environment.
* Manage teams of 24x7 engineering technicians: prioritize tasks, coach, document, and train staff on best practices.
* Effectively manage operations budget: monitor expenditures and optimize resource allocation.
* Engage in improvement projects: drive projects from conception to completion with cross-team collaboration.
* Coordinate with third-party vendors: ensure adherence to contracted SLAs.
* Communicate complex technical information: adapt communication for diverse stakeholders, including non-technical audiences.
* Respond to after-hours emergency calls: address urgent issues outside regular hours.
* Act as escalation point for facilities-related issues: oversee routine and emergency services and safety procedures.
* Deliver operational excellence: prioritize team development and achieving operational goals.
* Foster a diverse and inclusive team culture: empower team members to reach their full potential.
* Perform physical tasks as needed: lift/move objects, walk job sites safely across terrains.
* Support accessible work environments: accommodate employees' diverse needs.
* Work in noisy environments when required: use approved PPE.
* Support multiple locations/sites: coordinate operations across different sites.
* Provide on-site management for builders, five days a week (no remote work).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* High school or equivalent diploma
* 2+ years experience in a management position with 5 or more direct reports
* 2+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other mission critical environment with knowledge in UPS, Generators, HVAC, Evaporators and other critical infrastructure OR 7+ years of Technical (Military/Trade School) training and/or experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Advanced electrical or mechanical certifications (Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline)
* 3+ years experience in a management position with 5 or more direct reports
* 5+ years experience working in a data center or other mission critical environment with an emphasis on building and equipment operation
* Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in data center operations (feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS, ATS, PDU, chillers, pumps, AHUs, CRAHUs)
* Strong written and verbal communication skills; technical writing or business justifications experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $98,700/year to $185,000/year, depending on market location and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company; equity, sign-on payments, and other benefits may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
