Candidate profile (text) - Default language WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN IKEA
Hi, I'm Akshi. I lead a team as an Engineering Manager at IKEA - and I'd love for you to be part of it. Let me tell you why.
I'm looking for a true team player - someone who genuinely cares about their craft, isn't afraid to share ideas, and always sees opportunities for improvement. You're an experienced expert who stays curious, seeks creative ways to achieve goals, and overcomes challenges with determination. You care about the details and know what it takes to deliver high-quality applications. In this role, you'll have a real voice in shaping strategic decisions about the design, construction, distribution, and maintenance of cloud-based solutions that power our business.
At IKEA, our vision is to create a better everyday life for the many people - and we're committed to being truly people and planet positive. IKEA Food is a key part of that journey. Beyond our iconic meatballs, we're reimagining how we connect with customers - both in our stores and in their homes - to create meaningful, sustainable experiences.
Like me and the rest of the team, you believe in working with purpose and having the freedom to innovate.
We know that true innovation comes from co-creation - and from the courage to experiment, learn, and sometimes fail.
At IKEA, you'll find humble, supportive, and passionate people who share one mission: to shape the future of the IKEA Food experience and create a better life for more of the many people - always putting the customer at the heart of what we do.
WHO YOU ARE
We're looking for passionate engineers who are excited about technology, eager to explore innovative ways of working, and ready to help shape the future of IKEA!
As a person, you have a proven track record of developing high-quality code and applying best practices throughout your work. You're naturally curious - always learning, experimenting, and championing new methods, digital tools, and processes that drive performance and continuous improvement. You adapt easily to new ideas and approaches, and you thrive in an agile environment where collaboration, ownership, and accountability are key.
To succeed as a Software Engineer at IKEA, you likely have an academic background in computer science or equivalent hands-on experience - staying current with modern technologies and best practices in your areas of expertise. You're experienced in Agile and DevOps environments, take full ownership of the products you build, and care deeply about the customer experience.
You're energised by delivering high-quality software in an agile setup, focusing on resilient architectures, well-functioning software ecosystems, democratized data, and smart infrastructure - all vital parts of our IKEA Technology strategy.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Work on microservices technology (Docker, Kubernetes, especially in GCP)
- Build robust applications using technologies such as HTML/CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular, React, Java, Node.js, MVC frameworks, and SQL
- Work with CDI and CI/CD processes
- Contribute to establishing organizational best practices - from design patterns to clean code principles
- Collaborate across teams (app, cloud, backend)
- Identify and integrate third-party open-source tools where needed
- Prototype new ideas - individually or together with other teams (we love prototyping and MVPs!)
At IKEA, our culture and values are at the heart of everything we do. To thrive and grow with us, it's important that you share those values - grounded in togetherness, humility, and a constant desire to create a better everyday life for the many people.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Taking ownership of delivering high-quality software - quickly, reliably, and safely - while understanding the customer impact and overall experience your work creates.
- Working in agile teams and across capability areas to design, develop, and maintain products and solutions, while actively contributing to our shared community practices.
- Applying and promoting modern software engineering principles such as DRY, TDD/BDD, continuous integration, automated testing, pair programming, and code reviews, all within an agile and iterative development environment.
- Providing guidance and support to fellow developers, fostering good engineering practices and cultivating a culture of psychological safety and collaboration within the team.
- Contributing to the continuous evolution of our development standards and exploring new technologies, tools, and approaches that drive innovation and improve productivity.
- Collaborating closely with other software engineers and cross-functional teams to define design specifications, ensuring that all digital solutions integrate seamlessly and meet business needs.
