Location: Madrid, Regional Office, Spain
Purpose of role: To provide EHS support, development and implementation of Primark's health and safety agenda across the business
Reports to: Iberia EHS Country Manager
Key Responsibilities
Carry out health & safety inspections as required by legislation, Primark company policy, identifying potential hazards and recommending appropriate remedial action where required; and review and complete PINS system.
Conduct EHS inspections and audit workplace standards and activities as appropriate.
Conduct risk assessments and emergency plans.
Investigate specific incidents or accidents ensuring appropriate records are maintained, appropriate recommendations made and actions closed to reduce likelihood of reoccurrence.
Attend H&S Committee meetings in the stores.
Establish effective relationships and work closely and co-operatively with the retail team and other stakeholders.
Have a thorough and detailed working knowledge of relevant current legislation and advice.
Provide technical advice on all relevant environmental, health and safety issues to the stores.
Secure the development of a positive health and safety culture at all levels throughout the business.
Identify when poor practice demands additional training or the provision of information to provide this required support.
Drive forward, undertake or advise on workplace risk assessments and reviews in accordance with legislation or upon amended Primark policy, determining appropriate action and priorities.
Conduct regular and periodic EHS inspections and audits against defined workplace standards and activities in designated locations to evaluate performance.
Drive a culture of behavioural safety across the country and lead by example to ensure that safety becomes an integral part of everyday business.
Advise on training needs for the business in line with regulatory requirements, business need or poor performance taking into account performance improvement and return on investment.
Support the delivery of EHS training across the organisation.
Relationships
Cooperation with other departments and external supervisory and control bodies.
Establish effective EHS relationships and work closely and co-operatively with the retail team – within the region, at group level, and other stakeholders.
Develop key relationships with Retail Store Management, Area Managers, Head of Sales, P&C, Store Development, FM, Learning & Development, Retail teams, and Legal teams.
Work closely and support all other central functions as required on minimum EHS Standards; P&C, Store Development, FM, Learning & Development and Legal teams.
Education
Master degree in Health and Safety, specialties: Safety at work, Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics and Psychosocial.
Desirable Legal Auditor certification.
Environmental knowledge and background is desirable.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Total availability to travel around Spain.
Five years' experience in health and safety.
Communicative English language skills.
Experience in dealing with unions, conducting risk assessments, emergency plans, H&S trainings and participating in legal audits.
Thorough knowledge of, and ability to advise upon, environmental, health & safety matters, risk management and legislation, with substantial demonstrable experience of personal involvement in the management of EHS within a diverse fast paced work environment.
Results oriented with a strong focus on the delivery of objectives, including an ability to provide creative and innovative solutions based on a sound understanding of business requirements.
Provide effective verbal and written communication and feedback.
Systematic approach with good attention to detail.
Interest in continuous improvement and development of new technologies.
An effective communicator with the ability to deliver complex messages in a clear and appropriate manner.
Retail or FMCG's experience an advantage.
